Grim Disco – Give and Go

I worked with Birmingham based Alternative rock group Grim Disco to produce their first promo video. Despite the budget being low we pushed our resources to get some cool effects. We shot the whole video at Muthers, a hub for musicians based in Digbeth, equipped with crazy corridors, dirty pitch black rooms not to mention the recording studio manned by Birmingham’s increasingly in demand engineer, David Mccabe. The band consist of David Damms, Arran Berril, Byron James and Louis O’Reilly. Previous to the project i had never met these gentlemen before but as luck would have it we gelled like a bondage master and their slave, however i still don’t know which was which. Regardless to say we got on swimmingly which led to some very productive work. Along the journey we found Kristina Grigaite, a fellow musician known for her unique form of fuzzy retro rock was our model for the day. The concept to the video was to create the sense of disturbance and isolation. With the assistance of Adam Dufrane, captain of Muthers studio, we built a wooden box and threw kristina inside. The idea was to see her trapped in a small space trying to get out. I was really pleased with the end result, especially the nails scratching those patterns into the wood (which was covered in wallpaper by the way).

Music Video for Jazz Guitarist Alex Stuart

I met Alex Stuart when i was staying in Paris. He was jamming on the street at the end of Rue lepic. I recognised that he was not the normal street performer by the sheer complexity of what he was doing as a musician. As a fellow guitarist i was determined to have a chat with him and find out who he was. He came across as a laid back ozzy, very polite and intelligent. I was lucky enough to convince him into giving me a guitar lesson which he did. After, he showed the freshly mixed debut album he was about to release. I loved it instantly and cheekily asked if he had someone doing his videos for him. He said no and we decided to collaborate together. The track was called ‘Around’ so we decided to show motion and movement and the masses of parisians travelling through the urban decor of paris. The pigeons became i main feature as there were so many of them….and they didn’t have to sign a model release either.

Testimonial…”

“It was a pleasure to work with James! I loved the clip he did for me. He was able to pick up on the vibe I was going for and then go with it with his own artistic vision. Plus the fact that he’s also a musician really helped to get in the groove on my tune! I look forward to working with him again!”

Eduardo Niebla

I worked with the extremely gifted guitarist Eduardo Niebla to produce a short promo video. It was shot in a church in Ross on wye in Herefordshire. Guitar playing has always been a passion of mine so it was a great experience making this film. Think you can see the intensity of Eduardo’s playing in the film too. Exceptional!
